Tae Kwon Do Junior Program

Tae Kwon Do Junior Program

For Children Ages 6-15 Years
kids
The Junior Program teaches all the skills that can be safely taught to this age group, including sparring. The afternoon classes boast a 1:5 instructor to student ratio with the help of our Junior Instructors. At age 12, Junior TKD students move into the evening classes to receive more advanced training.

The program teaches children skills such as coordination, concentration, discipline, good sportsmanship and respect for self and others. To develop mental skills as well as physical, our Junior Program teaches the 5 Tenets of Martial Arts: Courtesy, Integrity, Self Discipline, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. We work to incorporate these principles into our classes and make them relevant for the students' everyday lives.

Advancement is based solely on a student's performance and attitude; tournaments or referrals are not required. Junior Program students are encouraged, with the help of Sa Bom Nim, to make their own decision regarding their readiness for test, and are charged a one-time test fee, pass or fail. This emphasizes training and perseverance rather than money. Our belief is that students appreciate their accomplishments more when they are truly earned.

Junior Instructor Opportunities

The Junior Instructor Program gives the older students an opportunity to learn leadership, communication and patience, while the younger students gain a trusted and skilled role model. A Junior Instructor position is offered to a student based on his or her attitude and performance. In return for commitment to the program, Junior Instructors are afforded special privileges and opportunities, such as attendance to special classes, as well as receiving a discount on test fees.

Our job is never to intimidate or humiliate your child, but be an ally and resource in demonstrating appropriate, healthy behavior. We teach responsibility and accountability to the students, and try to foster an appreciation for life. The training, rules and practices are all designed to develop awareness and intent, in and out of the do jang.
